A downloadable game for Windows

Good evening. I am VERA.

Virtual Employment and Resource Assistant. I coordinate BrightPaw Veterinary's night desk, and I will be your point of contact for the week.

Your file is open in front of me. Maria Dela Cruz, twenty-three. First week, no prior experience — which is not a problem. Most of what you need is in the software, and the rest you will pick up faster than you expect. You will.

The clinic is in the United States. You are not. Their morning is your graveyard shift, so you will work from the desk in your grandmother's old room, through the night, until the sun comes up over the wrong ocean.

Five nights. Monday to Friday. Then the week is over.

The position

Clients call in. You take their intake — what the animal needs, how old it is, which of our doctors should see it — and you find them a slot on a calendar that has rules. You file reports. You order stock. You will be evaluated on all of it.

Your workstation

One laptop. On it: our team chat, where the rest of the night crew talk over each other; your job board; the client line and its booking calendar; your own inbox, which is yours and not the company's; and the reference guides. Read the guides. People assume they will not need them.

Behind the laptop is the bed. You may turn and look at it whenever you like — the work will simply wait for you. That is the only cost.

Your schedule

There is no clock on your shift. The night advances as your work does; answer a call and you are one call closer to Friday. Nothing is timed. Nothing is rushed. Take as long as you need.

A few notices before you begin

  • The dashboard has been reported to stutter. Maintenance is aware. There is no fault.
  • The doctors sometimes leave personal requests on your board. They are unofficial. Handle them or don't — it will not affect your evaluation either way.
  • Your scholarship exam is on Saturday and your books are on the window desk. I would not ordinarily mention it. You will want the time, and there is less of it than you think.
  • The ceiling lights and the desk lamp are on separate circuits. If a light goes out, it has gone out.
  • Some calls arrive from numbers I cannot resolve. Take them as they come.
  • If something in the room appears to have moved, it has not.

About the game

The rest of this page is from the developer, not from VERA.

Virtual Assistant is a single-player horror-mystery about divided attention. You work a fully simulated desktop — client calls, bookings, reports, team chat, email — inside a fixed-view 3D apartment, and the paranormal escalates in the space your work leaves unattended. Nothing chases you. Nothing has to.

  • Five nights, paced by your own progress rather than a timer.
  • A real job with real standards, scored where you cannot see it.
  • This demo covers the first three nights, Monday to Wednesday — roughly 15 to 20 minutes. It ends where it means to end. The full game is five, and the fifth is the one this is all pointing at.

Made in Godot. Single-player. Keyboard and mouse.
